Endodontics is a specialized field in dentistry that deals with interventions affecting the dental pulp tissue, including the treatment of acute or chronically inflamed tooth roots, commonly known as root canal treatment.
Tooth root inflammation can be caused by bacteria, excessive heat or chemical stimuli, or traumatic occlusion. Acute inflammation is a quickly progressing process that involves severe pain and requires immediate intervention. Chronic pulp inflammation can sometimes be asymptomatic. It may be noticed through occasional sensitivity, dull bite sensitivity, or the appearance of an abscess on the gum, and it may only be visible on an X-ray taken for other reasons. This chronic pulp inflammation, also known as a dental focus, often extends beyond the dimensions of the tooth root and can cause bone absorption in the surrounding bone tissue. Bacteria that enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body can trigger a wide range of symptoms, such as hair loss, skin problems, joint pain, endocarditis, and more.
Before microscopic root canal treatment, we perform so-called rubber dam isolation, ensuring a dry, saliva- and moisture-free environment, good access, and visibility.
After the final root canal filling is completed, a permanent restoration is placed in the tooth, depending on the condition of the tooth (this could be an aesthetic filling, overlay, zirconium crown, or a zirconium crown reinforced with a post).
