Edentulousness

Treating edentulous patients requires special experience, care, and technologies. To achieve a long-lasting, natural-looking fixed restoration, we have to be very careful from the first moment of planning the implant procedure, through the possible need of bone grafting, to the material and technology of the future restoration.

In the last years, dr. Terenyi took it upon herself to investigate and experiment in treating very complex and complicated cases to be able to provide anyone with the most comfortable and long-lasting solution possible and give back the ability of chewing and a beautiful smile.

Choosing the implant procedure method in such cases, dr. Terenyi evaluates first the quality and quantity of the bone and decide if the patient needs bone grafting. She also applies methods by which bone grafting may be avoided even in patient with insufficient bone.

Prosthetic restoration on dental implants in edentulous cases:

  • The impression of the implant is usually taken in two steps. The open tray impression presents a very precise model of the mouth.
  • Bite registration: this part might be the most complicated step of the procedure. During this process, the teeth level, height, and arch will be determined in three dimensions to reconstruct your earlier natural bite. Face bow and other registration appliances are applied as well in order to give you the most comfortable, functional, and aesthetic teeth possible.

Materials on dental implants in edentulous cases:

  1. Screw-retained porcelain fused to metal bridge
  2. Screw-retained monolith zirconia bridge
  3. Toronto/hybrid bridge

PCM bridge on All-on-4

At our clinic, our most preferred restoration for complete edentulous patients is the Toronto bridge. This hybrid bridge consists of a special screw-retained monolith frame (titanium or zirconia/PEEK), and onto the frame the lab cements 12-14 solo zirconia crowns. This technology has all the advantages we find important in producing a full implant bridge.

The hybrid method’s advantage is that it is more flexible than other options. Often, a more solid porcelain fused to metal bridge or a monolith zirconia bridge can chip off or fracture. The hybrid frame and the solo crowns sitting upon it follow the jaws natural flexibility so the chances of the bridge chipping or fracturing is minimal.

The other advantage of the hybrid bridge is that, thanks to the CAD-CAM technology, its precision is unrivalled. On top of that the zirconia crowns are very similar to natural teeth so the aesthetic result is also unique and beautiful.
